Sixers Send Statement in Win over Knicks

The Philadelphia 76ers were singing a great tune off broadway this afternoon. They’re 106-94 victory over the slumping Knicks, put New York down into an even deeper hole that they can’t seem to dig themselves out of. After starlet Jeremy Lin burst onto the stage in a February 4th victory over the Nets, the Knicks rode Lin’s momentum to a seven game win streak, and to a 10-3 record through his first 13 games as the starting point guard. Soon after four losses in a row, they found themselves matched up at home with the Atlantic leading Sixers. Philly would love it nothing more than to keep that skid going and increase they’re own playoff chances.

No one would’ve imagined the embarrassment they caused the Knicks in front of faithful at the Garden, however. After a halftime score of 51-49, and the game right there for the taking, the Sixers blew the roof off the building and outscored New York 38-24 in the third, thanks in large part to Lou Williams and Evan Turner. Turner contributed 13 of his 24 points, and Williams tallied 12 of his game-high 28 in the quarter. Andre Iguodala had an all around good game of 19 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals to help the cause.

The 76ers ended a three-game losing streak to the Knicks, and with a loss by the Boston Celtics to the Lakers later in the evening, Philly takes back a three game lead in the division over Boston, and remains a threat in the Eastern Conference.
